Danville community pages report visits by residents and relatives from Indianapolis Coatesville and Huntington. A lawn fete at the Public Library aids the Summer Mission for sick children as others travel to Brookside Park and Lake Wawasee.
The annual silver offering by the Woman's Foreign Missionary Society of the M E Church drew broad attendance as members invited five guests and several nearby societies. President Mrs Gambold led a varied program with music, readings, pantomime from India China Japan Korea and Alaska scenes. Twenty dollars from the event goes to Miss Margaret Landrum in Hyderabad India. Guests received punch wafers and sweet peas as keepsakes.
A Phillips family reunion gathered August 15, 1915 in the Elrod Grove north of Centreville. Attendees included Emma E Phillips, Flora Purcell, Roy Purcell, Munda Horders, Claud Phillips, Lena Phillips, James Phillips, and others. Local residents and family members participated in the event recorded in this update.
North Carolina born I A Stewart recounted early life in the war era. He was pressed into the rebel army at about 18, later joined Union lines, and became a prisoner sent to New York before settling in Indiana. He has not returned to his boyhood home near Richmond.
The forty third annual old settlers picnic of Hendricks Morgan and Putnam counties will be held at Stilesville in Wall's Grove on Saturday May 7. Watson and other speakers entertain the crowd. Tritt's merry go round and amusements for children. Brass band music all day. Everyone invited to enjoy a day of fun in shade and sun. Large crowds and orderly proceedings expected.

A noon basket dinner follows a 1 30 pm sing and communion with talks by E Richard Edwards and Mrs M Griest in Fillmore.
The former governor J Frank Manly will enter publishing with Oliver W Stewart to launch The National Inquirer in Indianapolis in a bid to advance prohibition. Supporters tout his energy and principle while critics doubt his political return, yet backers see a strong popular cause driving success.
Darius Masten, knocked from Vandalia bridge at Plainfield during a flood three weeks ago, survived a fall through timbers. He faces a broken shoulder, bound left arm, healing scalp wound with eight stitches, and a right arm swelling now improving. Fellow workers saved him from drowning and his recovery continues.
In a Sunday ball match at Belle Union the Coatesville Blaze defeated Belle Union 3 to 0. Marshall Sullivan and Stewart hit well, McCollum showed control with his spitball, and Warren kept the plate, marking a well played contest with promising future dates.
Ike Edwards of Indianapolis called at The Herald with his wife and son Lonnie. Edwards has left the dairy business for easier work. Lonnie has progressed in art, assisting Prof. Starke at Herron Art Institute and working for Indiana for the Panama exposition. The Herald looks forward to printing one of Lonnie's drawings.
The community aims to finish the cemetery sidewalk with public contributions. Subscriptions are handled by W. T. Beck at First National Bank. Donations include cash and works such as hauling gravel, with names like BE Q V Club Arthur McClure L J Phillips Allen Campbell and others listed.
A solicitor promotes a congressional petition to tax mail-order firms based on local sales. The argument: large traders should contribute to schools and public institutions since home merchants carry stock costs while outsiders avoid taxes. The measure aims to make mail-order houses pay their fair share.

The Woman's Literary club met in July to study Jean Francois Millet and four of his famous works. Mrs. Eda Elrod Quick presented the Millet biography while Mrs. Kaura Hughes discussed The Gleaners and The Angelus.
The New Yorker running sixty mph neared Fillmore during a violent rain and hail storm. A large oak tree blocked the track and split in two when struck by the locomotive. Debris struck cars but no train damage occurred. The train was delayed fifteen minutes while crew cleared the line. Engineer Cronin and Conductor Sid Saith led the crew.
Absence of Rev. J. B. Sherill leads to no preaching next Sunday. The pastor and his churches will be on vacation during August. Bible School at 9:30 each Sunday.
