The Department of High Schools presented to the National Education Association a plan backed by nine educators. It calls for colleges to revise entrance requirements to fit modern high school aims and emphasizes flexible courses and broad vocational training for all students.
Harvey M. Cook of Avondale Iowa claims he nominated Gover nor Marshall for president by sending two tomatoes bearing the inscription Thomas RB Marshall 12. He says the fruit proves the nomination is valid and that he used stitched green skins to form the lettering. Cook asks the Governor for an autograph in return.
A reader condemns mail order houses for aggressive catalogs and inflated prices. They say exchanges are refused, payment is demanded before delivery, and returns are not honored. The letter accuses these firms of failing to support farmers, local taxes, roads, bridges, and charitable institutions.
Governor Marshall and Guy Hanna discuss reforms at Plainfield to limit youth admissions. A reform would raise the minimum age, limit court sentencings for boys under twelve, and reduce overcrowding at the Indiana Boys' School which now houses about six hundred of a four hundred capacity.
In Cass county thrashing moves fast across neighbors who form work companies of twelve to twenty. Captains lead teams that rotate from farm to farm, with load ready at each stop. Some areas have the thrasher supply all meals and lodging, others board hands locally. Capt Aaron V Dukes a Randolph County native born 1834 died in Peru He moved with his parents to Peru at twelve and lived there except 1896 to 1864 when he was a Mankato Minnesota merchant He fought in the Sioux war commanded troops at Mankato and later managed the Indiana Manufacturing Company He funded a hospital building north of Peru to be given to the town

George W Freyan a cabinet maker from Indianapolis camping with his wife four sons and brother Fred Freyan on the Kentucky shore near Lawrenceburg Ohio river nearly drowns when a sixty three pound yellow catfish pulls him overboard. He and the fish surface after being submerged twice and are finally hauled ashore after a struggle.

The Hendricks County Society of Indianapolis led by president James M. Ogden plans a Danville reunion on Sunday in July. The Panville Commercial Club invited them and the agreement includes serving fried chicken as the main dish.
