Paul Hope Returns From France After War Service
Paul Hope arrived home Sunday from France after discharge at Camp Sherman Ohio. He enlisted July 27 1917 in the first infantry band and moved to the medical corps at Camp Beauregard La on Jan 11 1918. He served as a motorcycle driver for the sanitary squad captain until the armistice and later joined the Mars hospital center orchestra which played for French royals and troops including a benefit performance for French war orphans that raised about 500 dollars.

Kennedy road contract awarded to Q J Larkin
Q J Larkin of this place awarded the contract to build the Kennedy road on the Hendricks Morgan county line. The four mile gravel improvement cost 26000 dollars and was the sole bid at the joint Danville session. This is the first road let in over two years in the county.

Underwood Farm Sold For 185 Per Acre Near Town
Henry Underwood sold his 160 acre farm three miles north of town near the Nick Harris place to a Boone county farmer for 185 dollars an acre. Underwood had bought the property in 1895 for 36 dollars an acre. Elvin Stewart and Bud Mason were hired to cut oak and poplar timber from May 30 to Thanksgiving, timber sales reducing the cost to 27.50 dollars per acre.

Discharges of 113th Engineers Return Home from War
Kenneth Sharp Noel Rollings and Avon Draper of the 113th Engineers were discharged at Camp Sherman Ohio last week and returned home. They enlisted after war began and were called to Ft Benjamin Harrison June 29 1917 then to Camp Taylor Kentucky aided in camp construction before a year at Camp Shelby Mississippi and then overseas. They served in France near St Mihiel Saupigny and traveled home via Coatesville two weeks after sailing from France. Noel and Avon last visited town July 4 1917 until their return almost two years later.

Last week Frances J Poer bought the Ott Stanley property at the south end of Broadway through C E Wallace Co for 1300 dollars. The 8 room house sits on about one acre as Poer and her son Luther plan to move in soon, replacing former residents Carey Swank and Jeanie Eastin. Eastin may move elsewhere due to storage constraints. The firm also sold Peer's Water Street three room residence to Oliver Carter for 300 dollars. the Carters will reside there.

Accident injures Cloverdale man near Clayton
T J Nixon of Cloverdale sustained severe bruises when an ambulance truck carrying Dr Moser of Del Union and the two men lost control and toppled into a ditch west of Clayton. The car was righted and driven home. Dr Moser unharmed. Nixon had earlier transported a patient to an Indianapolis hospice for Dr Moser.

Poison Kills Child In Plainfield Currants Incident
The q year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Sterling died last Friday after eating currants near potatoes sprayed with Paris Green by a neighbor. Poisoning believed to occur from residue on the currants. The child fell ill shortly after eating the fruit and remained ill for three days.

Fight Cabbage Worms With Sprays And Hand Picking
Green worms about an inch long chew holes in cabbage cauliflower and Kohl rabi leaves. Hand removal and frequent picking help when only a few plants are present. Early spraying with seven level tablespoons arsenate of lead per gallon of water plus soap is advised, or dusting with the powdered lead mixed with lime.
