Congress member Fon Ralph W. Moss and Purdue professor T A Coleman announce U S Department of Agriculture aid to Hendricks county. Two expert veterinarians will work with the county agent, quarantine sick herds, treat surrounding stock, and cover costs. Meetings planned to organize a countywide campaign with local cooperation.
The Winslow Dispatch urges local merchants to advertise aggressively like Monticello’s L. G. Gustavel who uses weekly ads to show item prices. It argues residents can buy many goods cheaper locally and that better advertising would curb mail order competition and boost the town’s commerce.
Residents were surprised by a gentle rain Wednesday morning after failed forecasts. The rain is welcomed for benefiting corn and potato crops and reviving parched pastures in the community.
William Henry Tincher born June 4 1848 near Pecksburg Hendricks County Indiana died June 26 1914 at his Lawton Oklahoma home aged 66 years 22 days He was a Civil War veteran in the 43rd Indiana Volunteer Infantry and later served three years in the regular army He and his wives Peggie Phillips and Lou Dickerson farmed in Kansas Danville and Decatur IL later settling in Lawton He died after a life of vigorous work and humor with burial in Amo Indiana Funeral services were held June 28 at the Amo Methodist Episcopal Church led by Rev Louis S Smith The Gray text notes his death and family heritage.
Miss Iona Greenlee daughter of Mr and Mrs W E Greenlee wed Elmer Christie of Reno in the county auditor's office at Greencastle on Wednesday of last week. They have long been schoolmates and sweethearts and friends offer congratulations on this pledges of lasting companionship.
Paul Brandenburg who was severely injured when struck by a traction car on the T. H. I. & E. near Green Castle may sue the company for damages. He was unconscious for weeks and spent five weeks in an Indianapolis hospital. Physicians call his recovery remarkable. The company offered $200 to settle wages. Brandenburg has consulted an attorney and will decide soon on suit.
The marriage of Miss Clara to Mr. Oliver Arnold Keller was solemnized last Sunday at Clayton home of Mr. and Mrs. Anderson. Rev. Hackleman officiated with a ring ceremony. The bride, a Hendricks County teacher, and Mr. Keller, creamery head at Urbana University, Ill, left for a ten day Winona Lake honeymoon and will reside at 1107 West Oregon Urbana after Aug. 10.
Hendricks county farmers are urged to supply seed wheat to Missouri buyers at a good price. Orr proposes a market for farmers who store quality wheat after threshing, promising profitable arrangements and requesting contact via telephone or letter for full details.
The writer laments readers who enjoy a local paper while enjoying credit then balk at remittance. He notes excuses for not paying, claiming they never ordered or read the paper and accuse a payment request as insulting.
The will of the late Lucius A. Dobbs was filed for probate with Clerk A. J. Hamrick. It states the widow inherits the estate after debts are settled and, if she dies, the property is divided equally among sons Joel M. Dobbs Albert E. L. Dobbs and Eugene H. Dobbs. Eugene El. Dobbs receives one thousand dollars.
Atlas Phillips with wife and mother and sister joined Allen Campell and family and Chas Short and family for a Sunday automobile excursion to Blue Bluffs and Martinsville.
Lucius Alphon Dobbs born July 24 1868 in Mill Creek Township died June 17 1914 aged 45 years 11 months 23 days son of Joel and Eliza C Dobbs. He married Ida Lee Wurst July 28 1889 and had four sons Joe Martin Albert Lee Edgar Ray who died in infancy and Eugene Hart. Survived by his mother Eliza Vaughn four brothers Frank A Charles A George A Otto O and many friends. A respected farmer and stockraiser known for fair dealing and helpfulness he faced illness without complaint planning his business and funeral details. Funeral services were held at Stilesville Baptist Church conducted by Conelius Abbatt and Reuben Masten with many relatives and friends in attendance.

The First Wheat from A D Hurst and C B Staley living near Belle Union was bought by Davis Johnson at the Coatesville mill and graded No 2. Four or five machines operate here as the grain arrives at 70 cents a bushel. Wheat quality varies with some fields yielding 30 bushels per acre and others under 10.
In Hendricks County the thermometer stayed hot through Saturday registering 98 in the shade. A cold wave swept in overnight dropping to 62 by Sunday and the readings remained uncomfortable. A heavy rain and west storms caused property and crop damage.
