Bank Robbery at Gosport Bypasses Safes and Holds Bonds

Robbers entered Gosport bank early Monday night and stole about 1509 dollars. Cash, war savings stamps, postage stamps, and Liberty bonds were taken from safe deposit boxes and a nearby bag safe. A night watch pace near midnight led locals to alertness, but no one investigated further.

Susan Warren Dead at Hillsboro Home

Susan Warren died at her Hillsboro home on December 24 after an illness. She was 81 years old and widow of Warren who died in 1917. Born in Putnam County she was a well known resident here with relatives and many friends. She is survived by four children and two sons-in-law.

Sugar sold Saturday morning at 22 cents per pound with a two pound limit per customer. Shoppers bought what they could, hoping prices stay low or sugar becomes more plentiful as prices rise.

Theft of Furs Cleared in Green castle Case

Ellis Ducan a 15 year old helper at Roth berg Bros. Produce Co. confessed to thefts with Ralph Patterson 25 of Greencastle. They admitted stealing three skunk hides and two possum hides sold to Albert Cooper and sharing proceeds. Patterson also confessed. Alozo Anderson linked, jailed then freed. Duncan sentenced to six months in penal farm. due to age, term suspended and he released on good behavior.

Christmas Meeting of Woman's Literary Club in 1919

The Woman's Literary Club met Tuesday afternoon December 23 1919 at Martha Fowler Pruitt's North Main Street home. Yuletide decorations centered on a bright Christmas tree. Miss Mary Hunt spoke on Dixon Erskine Cable and Harben, with Miss Winifred Elrod presenting John Fox Jr. biography. Mrs Hunt read Christmas Eve on Lonesome. Gifts were exchanged before adjournment to January 21 1920 with Mrs Rose Crews Edwards.
