William S Beck writes from Fort Crook Nebraska about a year in the U S Army. He recalls enlistment at Columbus Barracks in 1917, training in Texas and Minnesota, guard duties near the Rio Grande, life in camp, and transfer to Fort Crook. Also notes death of Morton Albaugh and his career in Kansas and Indiana.
Government wartime eating campaign outlines daily meat and fat restrictions. Monday promotes wheatless meals while Tuesday repeats meatless goals and Wednesday repeats wheatless. Saturday urges porkless dishes, with guidance to cut sugar and fats daily.
