Robert W Matthews 46 of Bainbridge died Friday night near 10 at his home from pneumonia following influenza. Short home service Monday at 10 with burial at New Providence cemetery at 1 30. A longtime Putnam county business man and farmer, he was well known in the area.
The notice lists the widow and two daughters of the deceased along with a brother Richard Earl Matthews a farmer and three sisters Mrs Fred Masten Mrs Orville O Nea and Mrs Arthur Plummer all of Greencastle.

A. H. S. teachers and students held a farewell for Principal Harshbarger last Tuesday. Basketball results show Amo beating Stilesville 32 18 and Monrovia 44 23. Juniors staged a play, Brown Eyed Betty, earning 895. Harshbarger resigned Feb 13 to become Roachdale bank cashier. Ralph Phillips will fill the vacancy.
Eastman Hospital Maynard Buis 20, son of Charley and Mrs Buis living seven miles east of Greencastle, is critically ill with double pneumonia at Dr Eastman hospital in Indianapolis. He had been brought for appendicitis operation when pneumonia developed. Parents and siblings were summoned to Indianapolis Monday.
After the war outlook remains bright with vacant houses filling up as people seek homes. The downtown area is improving and all business lines show promise for a lively year ahead. Croakers may croak but Chizzletown will not down.
The Sunday sermon at the Methodist church focused on Environment and its effects on life and morality. The pastor used illustrations of a former settlement taken over by criminal element, now remembered as a very wicked place, to show long term environmental impact.
A letter from E. T. Sellers of the U S Hospital at West Baden Indiana to James Davidson director of the Red Cross acknowledges a February 13 1919 check from the Junior Red Cross. The funds will buy canteen books for patients and be distributed by the Red Cross representative.
Ralph Lecman returns home after overseas service. Trained at Camps Taylor and Shelby starting August 1917 he sailed in August 1918 but was ten days from the front. He boarded a transport for home in January and was discharged at Camp Sherman.
Last week in Coatesville Luther Peer of New Winchester bought the Andy Nichols property on Water street and plans to move this week. Andy Nichols bought the Bill Campbell property in the east part of town where Henry Bowen had been living, and Bowen now seeks a new home.
Joe Davidson urges community leaders to extend term lengths to seven months and criticizes back-number counties for six month sessions. He argues eight months of comparative training across eight years vs six months in poorer areas harms student readiness for high school and eighth grade exams. He calls on patrons to visit schools, support teachers, and demand seven month terms.
Rev Ray Banks filled the pulpit Sunday morning and evening at the Baptist church. He preached an able morning sermon and a thoughtful evening message titled A Nice Young Man how he should be to be a man including the girls as well. It was praised as one of the finest sermons in days and urged a life worn as a full garment.
Henry H. Rollings age 75 a Putnam county farmer died Friday night from a self inflicted gunshot wound doctors believe severe stomach cancer diagnosed last week contributed to his action He resided with his daughter Mrs Louis Bullerdick and her family.
Wash Stewart surprised friends by appearing on the streets the first of the week. He recalls drinking camphor last week and narrowly avoiding danger but says he will keep at work at the old anvil for some time longer.
Herdis Harlan has been released by Uncle Sam and arrived home Friday evening. He joined the service last spring and drove trucks from the Alma Michigan factory to Baltimore Maryland where the government now stores hundreds of them.
Mrs Bert Pierson of Danville and formerly of this place died at her home Saturday. She was born Jessie Newnam, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm Newnam.
