A 1918 Danville notice outlines a stalled project to collect comprehensive military histories for Hendricks County youths who served or will serve in any branch. It lists township committees, data to gather, and requests residents to supply birthplaces, ages, family details, service records, enlistment data, camps, promotions, and photos for an unmounted 4x6 portrait.
Opal Storm daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Storm and George Cheek of Terre Haute wed Tuesday at 2 pm in the bride’s parents home. The ceremony, performed by Scy J E Sherrill, featured Fern Wisehart at the organ and a luncheon afterward. The couple, acquainted two years, will reside in Terre Haute with Cheek working in mine labor and Storm active in the Baptist church.
R S Fritsche will sell at public sale on the old Anthony Kelly farm four miles north and four east of Coatesville and fourteen miles south and four west of New Winchester on Monday March 4 at 10 am. Items include two head horses three head cattle eleven head sheep twenty three hogs corn oats hog tools and other articles. Six months credit on notes with bankable security and a 3 percent cash discount. Col A A Figg auctioneer Milber Kendall clerk Jumbo will serve lunch.
Frank writes from England in January 1918 after crossing the sea with American troops. He notes a nearby submarine attack before arrival, the alert on deck, and a basic hut bed in a camp. He praises English hospitality, observes wartime sacrifice, and hopes for enduring goodwill between nations.

Gilbert Jacob Huber known as Bert Huber, son of a Coatesville family, enlisted in the U S Army aviation corps in Pittsburgh about a month ago. A Carnegie Tech training, selection among 700 for a two month aero motor and plane construction course in Boston, and pending commission as first lieutenant. He aims to fly someday and will be remembered in Coatesville with relatives Mrs. Darius Masten and Jacob Tuber.
Mr and Mrs Charles Green received a letter from their nephew Ernest King who is in the aviation corps at Battle Creek Michigan. He reports good health and duty conditions, he expects furlough soon, notes rapid morning drills, solid leadership, decent quarters and meals, and mentions a recent hospital stay for the red measles. He says he has gained weight and will share more when he visits home.
The townships of Sendricks county raise funds to hire a woman county demonstrator for one year. An application is sent to Purdue University for an agent who will be sent to assist in solving present community problems. Clay township women urged to provide loyal support, with thanks to supporting organizations.
The library shows 483 volumes loaned to adults, 356 to juveniles, and 178 non fiction, totaling 1017. Seven or more application cards were signed. Amo Station loaned 610 volumes and 17 application cards were signed. Several titles remain in circulation including Private Peat, Bullets and Billets, Over the Top, The First Hundred Thousand, All to It, and the Camp Diary of a French Officer.
The income tax collector will be at Danylile courthouse rest room all week. He will be at Hunter's Bank in Brownsburg on Monday Feb 25 and at the People's Bank and Trust Company in Clayton on Feb 26 and 27. All men should bring itemized income and expense statements to save time for both collector and taxpayer.
Calendar Club invites all knitters and guests to the February 27 meeting at 10 a.m. in the library assembly room. Members will sew for the Red Cross and share a noon dinner. please bring one food item for the meal.
A committee from the Indiana State Council of Defense led by A E Reynolds and others will report on boosting silos to 32 000 by end of 1918. They cite farm machinery week March 4 9 and a war driven push to repair replace 50 million dollars of equipment. The council also discusses pro German propaganda, banning petty thieves from army terms, and labor policy amid national defense guidance.
J J Oliver longtime community organizer and member of the Ladoga Christian church died at his home in Ladoga on January 30 after a brief illness. The church and Sunday school paid tribute with prayers and floral offerings reflecting deep love and respect for his memory.
