Man Charged With Attempted Murder Of Sweetheart

Lewis Skelton of Smithville is jailed in Bloomington after an alleged attempt to burn Miss Lillie Liford of Ellettsville by pouring coal oil on her clothes and igniting a flame. Liford, seventeen, died weeks later, with authorities saying the girl was unconscious most of the time. Skelton, twenty five, a Kassler company quarry worker, was arrested at Stinesville by Sheriff James Browning amid circumstantial evidence including a half empty coal oil can. The case sparked strong sentiment in Ellettsville and Stinesville as doctors fought to wake Liford for statements.

James Hinshaw, once an orphan home resident now living with George L. Leak at Liston, stole a horse and buggy from Homer Fought in Pittsboro, returned to Liston and tied the animal to the M. K. Church, was captured near Danville and held by officers.

Plainfields New Superintendent Named for Indiana Boys School

Guy C. Hanna of Terre Haute has been chosen to succeed E. E. York as superintendent of the Indiana Boys' School at Plainfield after 11 ballots from the board of trustees. Hanna, 30, will take the post April 10 after touring similar institutions. he has led the training department at the Indiana State Normal School for three years and previously at Marion Normal College. He is a Democrat and active in politics. He will assume full appointing power and meet the board February 13 at the Indiana Boys' School to outline duties. Wreck near Blountsville Claims Two Lives

A head-on freight collision east of Blountsville and south of Muncie killed two men and seriously injured another. Dispatcher errors and missed orders caused the crash between eastbound No. 1217 and westbound No. 73, with rescuers recovering bodies from the twisted wreckage. Charles Schrock died instantly. Brakeman Swisher was expected to die. others were injured as wrecking crews worked through the day.
