Danville sees a bustling week with numerous visits and Thanksgiving gatherings. Residents visit kin in Indianapolis Crawfordsville Anderson and beyond. several move homes. multiple readers travel for holidays. marriages and suits are listed, including license grants and legal actions.
A reader notes depopulation as about 75 residents move to Indianapolis in recent years. The piece urges action by local citizens, citing the list of names and calling for jobs and amusements to stop the population drain and revive the town.
W T Warmoth to sell at public auction one and a half miles northwest of Crown Center and three and a half miles southeast of Stilesville on Thursday December 14. Items include four head of horses seven hogs one Jersey cow hay corn oats and other articles. Farm rental offered day of sale if not already rented. Terms six months without interest on note with free hold security or 3 percent discount for cash. Auctioneer W H Shields and clerk A Hicka.
The Woman's Foreign Missionary Society met with Mrs. Geo. Hughes on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Julia Shields led an engaging program while members shared impressions from the recent district meeting. Geneva Bryant read a leaflet titled A Christmas In China and Edna Nichols sang a solo. Five new members joined, and the meeting closed with the Lords Prayer. Social time featured refreshments by Mrs. Hughes. Ralph W. Moss, defeated congressional candidate, is regarded by friends as a 1920 Democratic gubernatorial hopeful in the district.
Two unidentified colored men robbed N P Clingenpeel store in Fillmore Friday night, stealing about 100 dollars in merchandise and cash. Sheriff Harris and Clingenpeel caught them Saturday near a Big Four station between Hadley and Danville. They were taken to Greencastle and sentenced by Judge Hughes to the Indiana Reformatory for two to fourteen years.
Rev. J. E. Sherrill delivered an earnest sermon on Faithfulness to a good-sized audience. He urged faithful service to Christ, highlighted Jesus as our high priest interceding for believers, and urged church attendance as a modest, daily Christian duty.

Lewis C Wilson aged 63 died at his home northwest of Coatesville on Wednesday morning. He leaves wife Alzurta Wilson and four children: Mim, Clay, Mrs Oscar Brown, and Mrs Elva Cowgill. Funeral from Clear Creek church Friday at noon. Ndith Newman and Edna Wichols visited Mrs Grace Harlan on Sunday.
Three Indiana counties Lawrence Randolph and Washington established anti tuberculosis societies within months to support Red Cross Christmas Seal efforts and fund prevention work in 1917. Lawrence county named Mrs C M Lemon president Bedford. Randolph county’s Winchester meeting led by Mr Lee L Driver. Washington county chaired by Mrs Lera Berkey Zink after Fortnightly club suggestion.
Effort to introduce Bible study into public schools in Southern Hendricks County. Superintendent Mr. Lowe of North Salem leads the project. A Sunday meeting at Clayton at 2 PM aims to establish Bible school classes in local schools. One teacher per school would run a half hour after school three days a week for interested students.
The C W B M met with Mrs. Mary Sharp on Friday December 1 with sixteen members present. Topics included developing factors of four centuries of Latin American history and the division plan of work for the Women’s Missionary Society.
Secretary of state Ed Jackson of Luciana elect considers a plan to move automobile licenses to the county of residence. Licenses would be issued by county auditors rather than Indianapolis bureau. Plan aims to cut trouble for auto owners and likely gains legislative support.
Warns farmers about a new scam in which swindlers drive out with a load of ranges, ask to leave some behind, then steal them on the return while farmers sign receipts. The receipts appear later as banknotes, forcing farmers to pay. Several farmers near Gosport were recently caught.
Members of the Baptist church vote to hire Rev. Sherrill for half time to preach on the first and third Sundays each month. Saturday evening services will end. In the past year Sherrill preached at Hazelwood twice most months and at Bethel once. Bethel preaching ends.
Glen Brown sells at public auction on the Joseph Vaughn farm along the National road 24 miles west of Stilesville and 5 miles south of Coatesville on Monday December 13 1916 at 10 am. Items include 6 horses and mules 7 cattle 16 hogs 3000 bushels of corn hay and oats with shelter for bad weather. Terms announced day of sale. Auctioneers Col A A Figg and Otto Sherrill. Lunch served on grounds.
The Coatesville auxiliary observes C. W. B. M. Day at the Christian church Sunday December 10 at two o clock. A program closes with Rev Stainsby address and features a junior performance titled A Missionary Album. Family and friends are invited to attend.
F and A Masons at Coatesville elected C D Knight W M John Masten S W Auburn Rumley J W Allen Campbell treasurer Wm McAninch secretary and G W Bryant trustee at the December 5 meeting The new officers will be installed January 2 1917.
The Montgomery boys proved capable housekeepers during their mother's absence though they preferred trapping and hunting. Al worried the setup might not please their mother, so he conducted a thorough cleaning Monday morning.
The Tuesday club met on November 28 with Miss Minma Phillips and Mrs. Marple Hill at the library. Fourteen members answered roll call with Thanksgiving quotations. Two interesting papers on Thanksgiving were read by Mrs. Retta Roltoys and Mrs. Frances Mark. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Lou Bryant in December.

The regular annual stockholders meeting of First National Bank Coatenville will be held at the banking house on Tuesday January 9 1917 at two o clock p m for the purpose of electing directors.
