Calendar club hears talks on conservation and war effort

At the November 28 meeting in the M. E. church, Grace Julian Clark and Mrs. Taylor of Purdue extension spoke on conservation in the home and women's roles in wartime. Clark cited Red Cross and French relief work. Taylor urged awakening and continued conservation to aid victory. The program closed with Daisy Knight reading The Flag of Peace and a performance of The Star Spangled Banner. The club plans an all-day New Years gathering.

Preacher Shares Views on Christ’s Second Coming

Rev. J. K. Sherrill delivered the third prophetic sermon in a Baptist church series last Sunday morning. He discussed differing beliefs about Christ’s return, the restoration of the world, and the judgment, noting the church as Christ’s body and the need to bow the knee in humility. The evening service closed his pastorate with a union evangelistic sermon of Thanksgiving as the church crowded.

Hessian soldier’s turn to freedom told at church

Rev. Hootman shared a tale of his great grandfather Hochman, a Hessian pressed into King George III’s service, who chose liberty in the American cause. After capture at Christmas during Washington’s crossing, he became a U S citizen and joined Washington’s staff, receiving a Pennsylvania land grant and starting a family.
