Danville residents host and visit relatives across Indiana and nearby states. Celebrities include Miss Carrie Harrison from Kokomo and Miss Esther Babb returning to Wilmington Ohio. The town reports club federation guests, school term preparations, and the Danville Band reorganization with Prof. Rudy.
Marriage licenses issued include W M Lauderman to Mary B Webster Karl E Stanley to Carrie E York Dwight Bodenheimer to Viva Montgomery. Suits filed include Silas R Meek versus Indianapolis Traction Verminal Co change of venue. Walter T Morris and Grace Harris vs Jas McMurry et al quiet title action.
The Fifth District clubs met in Danville Indiana on March 30 for their eighth annual convention. Mrs Joseph K E Prewitt of Plainfield presided with Rev Mary Harold opening prayer and Miss Minnie Hill of Terre Haute delivering the welcome. Speakers discussed rural life sanitation education and organization while tributes honored Indiana's centennial and local achievements.
The congregation at the Baptist church witnessed a surprise wedding after the Sunday service. Dr LD Bodenheimer, a veterinary surgeon trainee, wed Miss Viva Montgomery of Coatesville. They plan to settle in Pikeville Kentucky where he will start his medical practice.
The article recalls brave pioneer mothers who balanced home duties with doctoring and bread winning. It urges girls to pursue womanly virtues and boys toward justice. Mrs Juliet V Strauss spoke on purchasing Turkey Run to save as a state park. The convention, at the Christian church, ended with applause and a noon luncheon. The next meeting is planned for Brazil in March 1917.
Miss Norse, a missionary in Old Um tali Rodesia, described native life for March 29 church gathering. She noted coarse corn meal mush as staple, field mice and dried caterpillars as foods, mud houses, and leopards near homes. Wives, stock care, and land cultivation hinge on cows. she seeks 6,000 for a year’s rest and support.
The village of Stilesville, in its ninety three year history, finds no minister in all three churches no telephone exchange and no cemetery sexton on April 1. The Christian, Baptist, and M E churches all lost their ministers recently. The telephone building sale stalled when Lewis heirs could not agree, leaving no phone service. Sexton George Osboro died of pneumonia after a March election. The town laments multiple misfortunes piling up together.
The Coatesville public school ended the year with recitations songs drills and dialogues on Saturday April 1 Violet Walton led the opening song. a Maypole drill by sixteen girls. second grade sung Cat Tails in a Row with Russell Coulter drawing cat tails.
The Thimble club met Tuesday March 28 at Mrs Chas West home with Mrs D 38 Bowen as hostesses. Guests enjoyed refreshments and a musical program. The next meeting is set for April 25 with Mrs George Archer and Mrs M F Bennett.
On Sunday April 2 at the home of Mr and Mrs Harvey King a large group gathered for Harvey King’s 38th birthday. Tom Hoover orchestrated the event inviting 60 friends and relatives from Carmel Augusta Fillmore Coatesville Indianapolis and more. A bountiful noon dinner followed and guests departed late enjoying the occasion.
An important meeting for Hendricks county citizens will be held in Danville on Friday evening at 8 o'clock. W C Woodward director of the Indiana historical commission will speak on perfecting a county organization of committees and actions by schools and civic groups toward a centennial pageant. Readers are urged to attend, especially Coatesville or Clay township residents, with cars encouraged to Danville tomorrow night. Act quickly as time is short.
The Woman's Foreign Missionary Society met on Tuesday April 4 with Mrs R R Shortridge leading a large turnout. Lectures covered Korean workers White Fields in Korea By Fire and by Sword Union Work in Korea and An Ewa Monologue with talks by Rhoda McAninch Geneva Bryant and others.
Parson Hicks predicts a volatile March with frequent rain starting Sunday through Tuesday causing floods and wind storms. Snow and sleet follow with cold spells and killing frosts. Warm spells bring violent storms and tornadoes around the 8th, then a shift to much warmer weather by mid month with more rain and hail before late month showers and lightning. The winter break ends as April showers bring May flowers.
The week of May 15 marks the first of Indiana's Centennial pageants on Indiana University campus directed by William Chauncey Langdon. Outdoor performances will unfold in twelve or more episodes showing community and educational life from early settlements to today with period costumes and authentic manners. Visitors from across the state are expected to attend and the production aims to model future pageants in other towns and communities.
Senior class of Amo High School stages Her Eriand the Enemy at Amo Assembly Hall on Saturday April 7 at 7:30 p m. The Civil War tale ends with northern and southern union in a bond of love.
