Disbanded watchdog panel delays city finances charter

Dana Point council stalls plans to create a new public watchdog for city finances. On March 6 members debated how to pick the panel and its role in advising the council. Councilman John Tomlinson will draft a new structure after the Feb 20 3 2 vote disbanding the original Financial Review Committee. The panel would voice its opinions and some members seek a majority vote on items sent to the council.

Laguna Niguel kicks off inaugural Senior Games in rain

In Crown Valley Park a rainy Saturday hosted Laguna Niguel’s first Senior Games with 181 adults aged 55 plus competing in soccer and other events like billiards swimming and table tennis. Rain postponed bocce and pickleball. recreation director Ron Rivera called the event a success and signaled plans for more games next year. Medals were awarded at a closing ceremony with winners announced.

Saddleback College to build $55 million football stadium

Saddleback College will construct a new $55 million stadium at its Mission Viejo campus, benefiting south Orange County. The facility, opening decades after a promised project, will host football, track, soccer and could serve as a venue for local high schools, concerts, graduations, and community events, per President Gregory Anderson. The 3,800-seat original structure dated to 1976, with outdated bathrooms and bleachers, prompted the renewal.
