Thirty killed in Fontanet disaster as Clinton residents flood the area to view the wreckage. The Fontanet powder plant may be rebuilt, and the town reassessed after the catastrophic event.
Judge D C Johnson presided in most cases with Judge Piety and Judge Walker stepping in. Several matters were disposed including bastardy continuance for Mamie Wishard v Melvin Jenkins and payment disputes for W P B Thomas v H T Payne. Many civil actions against Dering Coal Co. and estate settlements were approved with titles vested in widows.
William Conrad, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Edmunds and grandchild of William Reese, died after a brief illness on Tuesday morning Oct 16. Rev. C H Leeson conducted the 11 a m funeral service, with many friends paying respects and flowers. Interment was at Riverside cemetery. The poem Our Baby sleeps expresses the family’s sorrow.
James Hunter proprietor of the Hunter laundry and a leading Terre Haute citizen was killed at 8 30 last Sunday night by a Brazil interurban car. The accident happened two miles east of Terre Haute at the Country Club station. Hunter was very deaf and did not hear the approaching car.
