Tuesday a fire broke out in a tenement house near Thomas Campbell's grocery. Claud Durkee and wife occupied the fire start area. volunteers arrived within two minutes and extinguished the blaze. Most furniture saved, two front rooms burned, insurance fully covers losses.
Terre Haute Tribune notes that the C. and F. E. 1 railroad would not raise freight rates by ten percent as expected. Clinton coal operators would have faced higher costs to move coal to Chicago, risking closure or reduced Danville production if rates rose.

Reeder and Fairview park roads were not let.

A Negro named Jeff Gordon working on sewers was shot in the abdomen on Thursday night behind Modesti Steffani saloon in Clinton. He rode to his boarding house on North Water street with several companions, but the shooter is unknown. The bullet came from a 38 caliber revolver.
