Cubs Midway To Clash In First District Game

Clifton Cubs host Midway at Cub Stadium in Clifton at 8:00 P.M. to open district play. Midway, under Norman Smith, seeks first district win after losses to Valley Mills Gatesville and Crawford. Lamar Yoakum leads Midway and Clarence Mueller may return on defense. Juniors and B teams games follow this week.

Graveside Services Set Here For Mr. Tisdale

Graveside services for G. C. Tisdale 67 of Dallas will be held Friday at Clifton Cemetery. He died Wednesday in a Lancaster rest home. He is survived by his daughter Mrs. J L Hutcheson of this city. Funeral services are set for Friday at Sparkman Funeral Home Chapel in Dallas.

Clifton High Cubs rebounded from Lonnie Bland 88 yard kickoff to defeat Valley Mills 26 to 8 at Cub Stadium. Murphree and Stewart connected on key scores as Clifton outgained the Eagles 250 to 157 on the ground.

Oscar V. Olson Dies Here Sept. 21

Oscar V. Olson, 68, of Clifton, died at home from a heart attack on September 21. He retired in 1952 after a heart attack, later had a stroke, and was a long time Clifton City employee. Funeral held September 23 at First Baptist Church with pallbearers and interment in Clifton. He leaves a wife, two sons Otis and Travis, and a daughter Ruby, plus siblings and five grandsons.

Roteo Crowds Help Boost Texas Rodeo Prize Purses

About 260 contestants competed at the Central Texas Fair and Rodeo with more than 300 horses in the grand entry. Top prizes went to Calf roping Leroy Hodges and Dogging T. M. Smith, while Faye Oglesby and Jo Walling led TBRA events. Dorothy Snow, 1961 TBRA barrel racing champion, received a $200 saddle.

Killeen Couple Killed When Car Overturns in Spinout

Mrs. Kennie E. Luckie 70 was killed and her husband 77 injured when their car pulling a one wheel trailer overturned on Farm to Market 182 near Omenson place between Clifton and Turnersville. The couple, en route from Killeen to East Texas, were thrown beneath the vehicle as it rolled. Services for Mrs. Luckie were held in Killeen with burial at Copperas Cove. Mr. Luckie is hospitalized in Clifton after chest and other injuries. Survivors include two sons, D. F. Luckie of Houston and Joe Luckie of Los Angeles, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Bosque County 4H Club members plan steer exhibits at the Heart O Texas Fair in Waco from October 3 to 7. Clifton buyers report mixed farm prices on Thursday

Prices from Wednesday's Clifton cattle auction show about 475 head sold with a steady market. Slaughter steers and yearlings brought 22 to 24 dollars, cows 14 to 15, bulls 17 to 18.50, stocker calves 22 to 25, cows with calves 150 to 225, hogs tops 18.50 to 19.00.
