Sheep Growers Vote On Sale Promotion Fee

Clyde Henry chair of Bosque County ACS reports wool and lamb producers will vote September 10 to 21 on a new four year agreement with the American Sheep Producers Council to fund advertising, promotion, and market development through deductions from payments. Voting eligibility includes owners of sheep or lambs six months old for 30 days since January 1, 1962. ballots mailed to known producers and available at the ASCS office if not received. Tree Falls On Ira Hurley Killing Him At Walnut Springs

Ira W. Hurley age 71 was killed when a tree fell on him while he sat on the river bank near Walnut Springs Sunday morning September 2. His body was recovered by a neighbor. Funeral services were held at Walnut Springs Methodist Church with burial in Walnut Springs Cemetery. He had moved to Walnut Springs in 1913 and ran a barber shop. later he collected rocks and fossils and kept a 10,000 item museum. He and his wife celebrated their 50th anniversary last June. Survived by wife three daughters a brother four sisters and ten grandchildren.

Alvin Lyon Injured in Auto Accident

Alvin Lyon was rushed to the hospital after a collision with a car driven by Melvin S. McGregor of Panhandle on Highway 6 about 2:15 PM. Lyon suffered a severe back cut and head injuries. his Plymouth 1951 car was a total loss while McGregor’s 1962 Pontiac had about 300 dollars damage and he was uninjured. Police investigated. Lyon drove onto the highway from in front of A and H Oil Co.

Bosque County Winners Dominate 1962 District 8 4 H Record Book

Bosque County claimed five first place awards in the senior division at the 1962 District 8 4 H Record Book judging. Clifton entrants Charlotte Miles and Lois Nell Lammert led beef and home economics with scholarship, plus Linda Avery in home economics, Carolyn Reierson in recreation, and Crawfills Gap’s Bob Viertel in sheep and mohair. Kenneth Reierson took second in Texas electric, with district runners up Derril Wenzel and Alice Radde also placing. Junior division saw Bosque County winners Bennie Hanson Joyce Blackman Rodney Kruse Glenn Hanson Bettye Viertel Layne Kruse.

Monday this week Mr and Mrs Johnny Denton assumed operations of Brynie’s Cafe on Highway 6 and plan a two week remodel. Brynne couple have repurchased Conoco Cafe fixtures and lease and will focus on that venture. Sam Smith former Bosque County attorney has been in Clifton hospital since September 1.

Cubs Face Hillsboro To Open 1962 Season In Clifton

Clifton hosts Hillsboro in Friday night football opener with both teams strong defensively and Hillsboro boasting three starting backs from the 1961 district title team. Family Reunions Highlight Clifton Gatherings

Clifton hosted multiple family reunions before the 62 63 school year began. The Troll Neie, Grimm, Wallace, and Nystel Samuelson descendants attended events at the American Legion Hall VFW Hall Clifton City Park and the Legion Building. Attendees included many extended families with ages from 10 months to 89, sharing meals, photos, music, and plans for next year.
