Old Texas History series recalls Erskine Capote Ranch life
From Austin dispatches comes a study of early Texas archives detailing the Erskine family and Capote Ranch on the Guadalupe River. The narrative covers Joseph F. Johnson and family fleeing Jacinto era dangers, the Erskines’ hospitality, the ranch complex with slave quarters, the Capote home, and household operations. It also notes surveying activity and ties to Gonzales County, ending with a memorial verse for Clarence Larson.
