County agent Kruedert Reich explains soil organic matter origins from plants and animals, its carbon and nitrogen content, its role in soil structure and water retention, and its function as a nutrient store. It covers nitrogen storage, mineralization rates, nitrification, and the nitrogen cycle dynamics in mineral soils.
The Lutheran Church Women group held a business meeting on October 12 at 7:00 p.m. Mrs. ik. B. Harris was elected president for the coming year. Also chosen were Mrs. Hans Kalseneuer as treasurer and Mrs. Mitton Allen as secretary of stewardship. The program included a social action theme, musical selections, and a skit on today’s social problems. Esther Circle hosted refreshments and set November 9 at 7:30 p.m. for the next meeting with Mrs. W. T. Thompson in charge of the Thankoffering program.

Texas Highway Department announces plans to reconstruct grading structures and surfacing on State Highway 6 from 7.5 miles northwest of Meridian to the Hamilton County line, about 12.2 miles, with 120 feet of right of way at locations. Richard E. Taylor of Clifton receives a President's plaque at the State Agents Meeting October 3 to 5. Sidney Dean, Texas Farm Bureau president, awards for outstanding Life Insurance sales during June and July. Taylor is one of 26 Texas agents so recognized and led in Accident and Sickness policy sales while ranking fourth in Southern Farm Bureau Life Insurance. Bosque County places fifth in state for August and September sales in the county contest.
