Lieutenant Lather Abel Dies From English Bombing
Lt Lather J Abel, 23, husband of Janet Mia Abel, died Sept 22 in England after a crash during flight training. A veteran of 85 missions, he earned the Air Medal with three oak clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross with oak leaf cluster. He crashed Aug 10 in a P-88 during checkout. burned for 45 minutes while trapped, later described as severely burned. He was homeward bound for Thanksgiving after completing his 90 days instructing.
