Water had to be drawn from a well, hampering efforts, and nearby wheat granaries were saved. An unknown origin is suspected, possibly a tramp overnight.
Richard Beedig suffered heavy wagon damage after a local freight train backed into the wagon while workers loaded feed from the car in the yard. The accident occurred Tuesday near Portia where Hon. A. N. Hensley preached at the Baptist church.
A fire broke out in the press at R K Davidson's mill Tuesday morning around 9 o'clock, quickly damped by water and steam. The blaze caused about 15 to 20 dollars in property damage and some loss on cotton owned by M Walkes, with insurance covering the damage to the cotton and Davidson bearing the loss on his cotton.
