Letters from the San Jacinto era reveal Smyth papers
The George W Smyth papers, part of a Beaumont and San Antonio lineage, were donated to the University of Texas library. Among nearly 2,500 documents are seven unopened letters to Smyth carried to Texas soldiers. One note quotes Major Somervell pleading for horse security and urging mobilization, while another echoes Texan resolve amid Mexican advances near Brazoria and Galveston.
