Local anglers recount a 32 pound yellowcat hooked after a near slip back into the water then landed again. Rodney Moncrief tailed a 24 pound catfish on eight pound line while his nine year old son Ricky reeled a 7 pound black bass. Greg Tankersley, six, nabbed a 9 pound catfish on the same outing.

Miss Coston to retire from First Methodist Church area work
Sunday School teacher and longtime choir member Miss Coston will retire from her duties at First Methodist Church. A charter member of the Wesleyan Service Guild she held several offices and remained active in Civic Improvement Society and Clifton Magazine Club. She plans Alaska in June with sister Mrs. Mary Robertson.

Memorial Day events include flag placements by Clifton VFW Post and local observances across the county. A 7 a.m. breakfast at the Legion Building precedes 9 a.m. services at Clifton Cemetery with speakers Mayor O. E. Pierson and Rev. Cleon Flanagan. Over 550 miniature flags will be placed on veterans’ graves, followed by a barbecue at the Clifton Legion Post home for members, families, and guests.

The National Safety Council reports 116000 accidental deaths and 10700000 disabling injuries in the past year with half due to motor vehicles and significant home accident risks. Erle Powell of Gatesville announced the purchase of the Clifton Goodyear Service Store by Powell Supply Co. effective Monday. Joe White becomes store manager, Harold Wiese remains service manager, and Jim Shields moves to a new Goodyear post.
