William Denon Verris aged about ninety two, died at his home near Clifton on March 21, 1940 after months of declining health. The passing occurred Tuesday morning at 1:06 o'clock, following a long illness.

C W Johle 76 longtime Clifton area resident died Tuesday May 21 at his son's home near Womack after living in Texas since immigrating from Germany in 1864. He owned a Clifton store and farmed nearby. Survived by children E C Johle Clifton Lillie Reppey Amarillo C A White Brownwood W F Johle Brownwood A V Shepherd Childress plus two other sons, one sister Louise Steinhof Houston. Funeral at home of E C Johle May 2 officiated by Rev H Baur. Burial in Clifton cemetery.

John Rogstad died on Sunday morning May 1 after a long illness. A respected leader in education and the local church, he helped found Clifton College and devoted his life to Christian culture. Born November 22, 1885, he was the fifth child of Norwegian parents in Bosave County and lived a life of peace and service in the Norse community.
