Clifton Public Schools to Build New Band Hall
Construction will begin soon on a new Clifton band building after the school board opened bids on May 11. Central Texas Lumber Company offered 10 561 dollars for a 40 by 60 foot concrete block and brick hall with heating by Janitrol. The project, to be ready by August 15, will sit near the main school building south of the bell tower and reuse bonds from 1959 to cover all costs except heating.

Cubs Fall In District Title Playoff Hubbard Triumphs
Hubbard Jaguars defeated Clifton Cubs 14 to 7 to win the District 21-A baseball championship in a Tuesday playoff at Hubbard. Hubbard, in its first Class A year, also claimed district titles in baseball and basketball while Clifton took football and Connally won track. Mothers Day gathering included multiple Hancock family members visiting Clifton.

Young Clifton Cowboys Hurt in Meridian Rodeo
Two Clifton youths sustained injuries at the Meridian Junior Rodeo held last weekend. Tommy Turner injured his right arm and shoulder in bull riding on Friday night, while Tommy Latham lost three upper teeth and suffered a chin cut when the bull gored him in the face.

Pilot Escapes From Dust Plane Crash Near Koppers
Thomas Taylor, a crop dusting pilot for Johnson County Feeders Supply Co., escaped with minor hand injuries after a takeoff crash near Koppers. The plane struck mesquite bushes and power lines, ended on Santa Fe tracks, then burned after being toppled into a ditch by bystanders. Graves, his partner, was in the air spraying at the time.

Keel Injures Leg But Howard Payne Wins Track Meet
James Keel of Howard Payne Brownwood suffered a leg muscle injury in the Lone Star Conference track preliminaries last weekend. He reached finals in the sprint relay and hurdles, helped the team win third in the sprint relay, but could not finish the hurdles as Howard Payne clinched the conference title. Keel is the son of Mr and Mrs G R Keel of Clifton.
