Honor Cleng Sesquicentennial Services At Our Savior's

Special memorial observance for Cleng Peerson and early Norwegian Texans set for 10 a.m. Saturday May 17 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church Cemetery. Organized by the Norwegian Society of Texas and related groups with Dan Orbeck and Rev. Lawrence Jenson among planners. Activities include flag processions, Norse Singers directed by Camilla Jenson, memorial address by Carl Sorenson, wreath laying by Clarence Colwick, and performances of hymns and patriotic anthems.

First annual Norwegian Society of Texas picnic in Dallas

The benediction will be given by Rev. Joel Nelson of Trinity Lutheran Clifton. After a silent reflection, participants tour the Bosque Memorial Museum to view Cleng Peerson artifacts. Three or four cars leave Dallas and Fort Worth at 7 a.m. for Bosque County then to Churchill Park North Dallas for the picnic with Eric Bye possibly attending to tape for Norway.

Norwegians in Texas mark May 17 observance and heritage

County Considers Regional Jail Partnerships Expansion

Bosque Hill and John Candee counties could join a regional jail plan as the Commissioners Court explores new alignments. A meeting last month set the stage for possible partnerships with Gomatche Coryell Hamilton and others to share planning costs funded by the state and construction costs split between federal and state for up to two thirds. The rest would be by sponsoring agencies. The court also discussed abandoning county roads and reviewed a two year Armour lease option for county land in Meridian at 250 dollars annually with potential extension.

Fire truck and car collide near North Ave Q

A Clifton Volunteer Fire Department vehicle responding to an emergency call collided with a 1967 sedan in the 600 block of North Ave Q last week. No injuries were reported. Gene Sedberry of Clifton drove the sedan, which sustained heavy damage while the fire truck had light damage. State trooper Gerald Baker of the Texas Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol reported. Fire Truck on Page 6-A.

Clifton honors retiring Clifton School leaders at reception

Hundreds gathered at the Clifton Civic Center to honor Superintendent Kent Appleby and Principal Walter Hansen as they retire after long careers. The event, sponsored by the Clifton Independent School District Board of Trustees and PTO, featured plaques of meritorious service and floral tributes.

Rotary Club Receives Charter in Clifton Ceremony

The Bosque County Clifton Rotary Club became Rotary International District 587's 36th club with a Thursday charter at Clifton Civic Center Auditorium attended by nearly 200 people. William T. Driver Hurt When Hardtop Hits Light Pole

A 1970 two door hardtop struck an electric light pole in the 800 block of Nort Ave and Maple St. injuring the driver who was alone in the vehicle. The driver, Charles W. Raines of 203 North Ave, Clifton, was taken to Goodall-Witcher Hospital Foundation by a Clifton Volunteer Fire Department van. No other injuries reported in a separate Clifton High School parking lot incident at 3 45.

Honor Speakers Named Graduation Details Set

Clifton High School announces honor speakers for the Class of 1975 with Nancy Golden as valedictorian. Commencement is at 8 p.m. May 22 in Bettis Auditorium. baccalaureate is May 18 at 8 p.m. in Bettis Auditorium. Rev. Alvon Nelson speaks at commencement. Rev. Ted Steenblock at baccalaureate.

Clifton Names Three New Teachers At High School

Clifton Independent schools announce three new teachers for Clifton High School. Mrs. Joe Bryan Mrs. Robert B Lane and Mrs. James Warlick were elected last week. Mrs. Bryan will teach fifth and sixth grade reading and is married to the incoming principal Joe Bryan. She is a Clifton High School graduate with degrees from Baylor University and four years teaching at Brook Elementary.

More than 500 visitors attended the Bosque Memorial Museum open house on Sunday May 11 celebrating the expansion. Guests included Mrs Lorena Gould and notable locals from Kilgore McKinney Worth Clifton and Norway Mills among hosts and hostesses as new wings atrium and landscaped grounds were showcased.

Mrs Lige Wallace To Observe 100th Birthday At Sunset Home

Mrs Margaret Wallace resident of Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home will turn 100 on May 18, marking her as the third resident at the home to reach a century. Born May 18, 1875 near Dallas to J N Mitchell and a Alabama native mother, she married Lige Wallace in 1895 and had four children Steele Helen Tony and Carol.
