Meridian Park Awarded Grant for Recreation Development

A $52 753 grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund will fund outdoor recreation improvements at Meridian State Park. Matched by state funds, the project includes tent and trailer camp units, picnic areas, screened shelters, utilities, and a caretaker residence renovation. Scheduled work is guided by Texas Parks and Wildlife Department with local oversight.

Death of Mrs. William A. Seljos in Waco Hospital

Mrs. Margaret Christenson Seljos of Clifton dies at Providence Hospital in Waco after surgery on April 9 and a final operation on April 28. Born February 21, 1911 near Clifton, she was daughter of John Christenson and Martha Hansen Christenson and a lifelong Lutheran of Trinity Lutheran Church Clifton. She married Ole G. Ringness on February 25, 1932.

Western Auto Store Thieves Still Sought

Police continue to search for suspects in the Clifton Western Auto Associate Store robbery. Thieves escaped with 61.12 dollars from the register, three tires, three rifles, three shotguns, and ammunition. The crew entered via a roof vent and caused minor damage before fleeing. Authorities include Ranger Johnny Krumnow, Sheriff A O Carr, and Officer Eldon Forbess. A Broom found weapons and ammo under Meridian Creek bridge.

CHS Cubs Take Whitney Game

Clifton High School Cubs defeated Whitney High 5 0 last Wednesday afternoon. Gary Anz pitched a two hitter while Jim Ed Bird Barry Forson and Larry Grimland each had two hits. The final South Zone game vs Itasca at Hillsboro is set for Thursday at 4 00.

Cemetery Association to Meet May 10

The Clifton Cemetery Association will hold its annual meeting at 2:00 PM in City Hall dining room on Tuesday May 10. President W B Oswald invites all lot owners interested in beautifying Clifton Cemetery to attend. election of officers for the coming year will be held at the gathering.

Clifton Election Result Board To Display Saturday

Clifton Lions Club installs a 30 by 7 election board atop a 30 truck bed in front of the Community Public Service Company building to share Democratic Primary results. Election judges and nineteen volunteers will staff Clifton polls at City Hall dining room from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday with contests in seven state races one district race and three county races.

Grace Memorial Junior Choir Sings In Festival

Grace Memorial Baptist Church Junior Choir, guided by Mr and Mrs W L Gauntt, traveled to Dallas on April 30 to take part in the State Song Festival. Members Leon Smith Lazane Smith Lindsey Wallace Patti Gauntt Eddie Gauntt Cindy Brown and Marion Riley joined. The choir earned an excellent judge rating.

Weekend visit with the White and Bond families

Visiting Wednesday night with his grandmother Mrs. H. A. White and relatives were Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie White of Temple. Also spending the weekend before last with Mrs. White were her son-in-law and daughter Mr and Mrs. W. M. Bonds and children Joy Dale Kim and Joe of Palacios. The Bondies spent part of the time with his parents Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Bonds in the Coon Creek community.

Clifton FFA Elects Officers For Next Year

Clifton Chapter of the Future Farmers of America elected new officers on May 2. Harry Willmann became president, C. L. Conrad vice president, Mike Conrad secretary, Sammy Mann treasurer, Howard Sommerffeld sentinel, Larry Mueller adviser, Ronnie Horn chaplain, and Craig White reporter. They begin terms in September. A Gulf Coast bay fishing trip was approved though the date remains undecided.

Graduation speakers named for Clifton High School

Superintendent Kent Appleby announced speakers for Clifton High School senior events. Luke W. Shira will deliver the baccalaureate address Sunday May 22 at 8:00 PM in Bettis Auditorium. Dr. Roy W. Dugger of James Connally Technical Institute in Waco will speak at graduation Tuesday May 24 at 8:00 PM in Bettis Auditorium.

Oil Pipeline Break Pollutes Neils Creek Near Waco

A Humble Oil eight inch pipeline broke near Neils Creek south of Clifton early Friday. Thousands of gallons of crude oil spilled into the creek, flowing toward the North Bosque River and Lake Waco. City officials feared drinking water impact, but plant superintendent Walter Biederman said danger to water supply is unlikely. Fire crews welded the line after oil drained. repairs began amid muddy terrain and warnings of oil-blackened banks.

4-H'ers Win Blue Ribbons In Show

Miss Delmelia Dunn reports 13 junior and senior 4-H girls won blue ribbons at the County 4-H Food Show held April 30 in Meridian. Entries across Meat, Milk, Bread and Cereal, and Vegetable Fruit divisions impressed judges Joyce Blackman Rita Blackman and Rita Willmann.

Bosque County NYC Leaders Attend St Louis Conference

Bosque County School Board officials Superintendent Heartsill and coordinator Carl Schmidt left May 1 to attend a Neighborhood Youth Corps Conference in St Louis May 2 to 4. The event featured city officials and federal lawmakers and aimed to brief NYC staff on policies and goals and discuss national and regional issues. Heartsill expects new insights to benefit Bosque County NYC.
