Counties consider regional jail plan for Bosque Hill and Johnson
The Commissioners' Court backed a planning study to assess jailing needs in Bosque Hill and Johnson Counties with possible Somervell County. A 100 bed regional jail could cost $15 000 per bed and be funded up to two thirds by federal and state governments. A seven member County Planning Council was named to advise Judge Charles Word Jr. and the Court.

Fire Destroys Warren Studio in Overnight Blaze
The studio of artist Melvin Warren on State Highway 6 burned to the ground Saturday evening. No one was home, and valuables including bridle gear bronzes and a near completed pastel were lost. Firefighters from Clifton and Meridian waited about two hours at the scene.

Loyalty Day Plans by VFW Post A553
Veterans of Foreign War Post A553 will observe Loyalty Day on Thursday May 1 with a 12:30 p.m. program at Clifton Elementary School and a 1:30 p.m. program at Clifton High School honoring teachers especially retirees. The Bosque Memorial Museum invites the public to an open house on Sunday May 11 from 2 to 5 pm to view the new north wing memorial to Edwin and Mrs Larson and the south memorial to Mr and Mrs Pederson. Rock Throwing Damages Cars in Clifton Neighborhood
Clifton police report a rock was thrown at a residence on North Ave H on April 23 with no injuries and the suspect at large. Two Friday accidents involved a 1965 sedan and a 1971 sedan at T P Drive In Grocery, causing light damage to the newer car, while a 1970 station wagon and a 1973 hardtop on North Ave D sustained light to no damage.
