A reprint from the Ink Dropper warns about a recurring baseball youth list error as 110 names are assembled for the season yet one or two players are often omitted in the final report. The piece humorously admits human error in editing and typesetting across the printing process.
Clifton High School star Wayne Prescher 6 feet 1 inch 195 pounds signed a letter of intent to play college football for West Texas State University. He was selected for the Texas Coaches School All-Star game in Dallas August 3-7 representing the North region. Coach Aubrey Roberts called Prescher one of the two best running backs he has coached at Clifton, alongside James Haywood of Sam Houston State College.
The regular monthly singing at Lane's Chapel is set for Sunday May 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. Everyone interested is invited to attend.
Community members from Clifton and neighboring areas rallied to raise funds for a new 64 bed hospital. The campaign reported $172,678.91 of a $216,000 goal with $37,000 still needed. A victory dinner for workers is planned at CHS cafeteria May 2 at 7 p.m. The first architect drawing of the hospital front view is published.
Clifton CHS students scored in district and regional literary contests with Tim Stevens earning UIL State Meet qualification by taking second in Ready Writing. Others placing high include Jane Olson second in Persuasive Speech, Jimmy Conrad second in Informative Speech, Missy Pierce second in Prose Reading, and Billy Helms third. Susan Nichols also took second in Tennis at the Regional meet.
The Clifton High Concert Band along with the seventh and sixth grade bands will give a public concert at 7 30 p m Thursday May 1 at Bettis Auditorium sponsored by the Band Parents Association.
Harold Warren notes heart warming acts in raising funds for Clifton and Area’s new hospital. Letters and gifts arrive from J P Nystel Abernathy Texas via Mayor Pierson and others in Dummitt Valley Mills and China Spring School. To date 1183 pledges totaling 165566.16 support the drive as Crawfills Gap and Valley Mills back the effort seeking local physicians and hospital access.
World War I veterans and the World War II Barracks 1887 and Auxiliary will convene at 7 pm on Tuesday May 6 at the American Legion Building in Hamilton. The gathering includes a supper hosted by Hamilton members as part of the regular meeting.
The Texas Department of Public Safety moves driver license activities to Meridian Fire Hall from the courthouse. Patrolmen staff the site at 9 a.m. each Monday except the first Monday of the month to renew licenses and answer questions.
J. H. Lundberg of Valley Mills will speak at the Clifton Civic Improvement Society meeting at City Hall dining room 3 p.m. Wednesday May 24. He will discuss the Goodall-Witcher Hospital Foundation and plans for a larger Clifton hospital. The Society voted a 1500 donation toward the new facility and sent 1000 to the hospital solicitation HQ, with 600 to follow next year. The organization funded two hospital rooms when the original hospital was built in 1759. Hostesses for the May gathering are Mrs. Haldor Duncan Mrs. G E Jackson Mrs. T L Todd and Mrs. J M White. All members are urged to attend.
Clifton reports 110 boys aged 7 to 15 signed up for summer baseball, the largest turnout in its history. Shortage of adult instructors noted. volunteers, especially former players and high schoolers, urged to contact Sinderud. Teams drawn. Pee Wee and Freshman districts in Neils Creek League, Junior teams in McGregor League.
Clifton P TA will meet at 7 30 p m Tuesday May 13 at Bettis Auditorium A program by the High School Speech Department under Miss Bettis will be presented The Spring Festival on April 25 grossed 467 51 with 248 10 from tickets and 219 41 from cafeteria expenditures will be reported at the May 13 meeting
Gifts and pledges reach 165 566 16 through April 29 with 1183 contributors. The campaign advances toward a 210 000 goal to cover a 1 260 000 building project.
