Sgt Carlson Cited For D Day Gallantry And Awards

Sergeant Thomas Carlson of Cran fills Gap who entered military service from Meridian served in the Infantry in the Twist Tank Battalion on D Day. He earned the Silver Star on June 28 1944 near Vierville sur Mer for gallantry in action while repeatedly exposing himself to enemy fire. Carlson was twice wounded, left the aid station to return to his tank and continued to command his crew until evacuated. The 743rd Tank Battalion also received the Distinguished Unit Citation on October 1 1944 for action at Galleville sur Mer and later.
