Sergeant Thomas Carlson of Cran fills Gap who entered military service from Meridian served in the Infantry in the Twist Tank Battalion on D Day. He earned the Silver Star on June 28 1944 near Vierville sur Mer for gallantry in action while repeatedly exposing himself to enemy fire. Carlson was twice wounded, left the aid station to return to his tank and continued to command his crew until evacuated. The 743rd Tank Battalion also received the Distinguished Unit Citation on October 1 1944 for action at Galleville sur Mer and later. An inventory notes the Distinguished Unit Badge is awarded to a unit with a record of acts by members.
Eddie Mihlhause, son of Willig Mihlhause, Moshein, came home after a forty five day furlough. He entered the armed forces on April 4, 1911, at San Antonio and trained at Fort Monmouth New Jersey. He was stationed in Louisiana and South Central United States before serving eleven months later in Italy with the Oth Ares.
Clifton Lions Club heard a talk by C. Jobson about a migratory labor program to supply farm workers during harvest. A reception center for workers was proposed with government funds and a supervisor paid daily. a five member committee was named to work with Jobson on the plan.
