Washington reports March 15 income tax returns show the new tax act will yield 1.66 billion dollars this year, supporting a planned 300 million dollar tax reduction. Treasury estimates end fiscal year surplus around 70 million, with 373 million expected next year. Administration aims to draft repeal of publicity section of the act.

The state highway commission designated a new highway through Hamilton County after a petition by representatives from Hamilton Erath and Lampasas counties. The route runs from Lampasas south via Evant Hamilton Hico Stephenville to Thurber. Upon completion it will total 125 miles of state highway in the county.
