English Settlement Kent on Brazos Dream Ends in Disaster
In the Waco paper’s March 8 piece on Steamboats on the Brazos, the English Universal Immigration Co. founded Kent near Kimball to link the Brazos to the Gulf. They hoped for a City of Kent rivaling Cincinnati or Pittsburgh, but Indian raids and a harsh winter wiped out the colony within a year, leaving no trace of Kent in Bosque County. A note on Comanche Peak naming prompts local historians to contribute to a forthcoming booklet.
