Underwood and Slagle Reach State Rodeo Finalists
Two Clifton youths Dakota Underwood and Abby Slagle qualified for the State Texas Wrangler Division Junior High Rodeo in Gonzales during the first week of June. Underwood, an eighth grader at Clifton Middle, earned state show spots in barrels poles and ribbon roper with a fourth place in barrels and fifth in poles. She also competed for Region X Junior High Rodeo princess and placed sixth in poles in the first go round before a rough second round knocked her out of nationals. Barrels saw a twentieth place first go. See Rodeo page 5.

Hikes And Happy Days At Camp Nature Day Camp
Ninety nine degree heat tempered by periodic breezes as third to fifth graders attend the annual 4 H Nature Day Camp at Meridian State Park for four days of fishing hiking swimming crafts and educational talks. Texas Wildlife and Fisheries demonstrates lake stocking with a camper catching the big one. Birdwell Wins June 22 Runoff For Texas Senate Seat
Birdwell defeated Sibley in the special election runoff across the 10 county district. He carried Bosque County 581 to 377. The race determines the Republican nominee for the November general election amid eligibility questions over Birdwell’s five year Texas residency. Signs point to a decision before ballot naming.
