Captive Japanese Prisoners Offer to Work for United States
A fragment recounts 18 Japanese POWs who, after extreme hardship, volunteered to work for the United States. One offered to learn English, another to serve for food and clothing, and a farm boy expressed gratitude and willingness to aid the U S. US owned liquor stores advocated in DC bill
Washington June 21 A bill to abolish privately owned liquor stores in the District of Columbia and to establish government owned stores for sale of intoxicating liquors has been introduced in the House by Rep Milton H West. The measure would require the change by next Pub 1 and would affect 400 liquor dealers now operating in the district. The alcoholic beverage control board posted income of 2 800 000 in 191 and the tax estimate under the bill would be at least three times that amount.
