Bosque County voters rejected transferring cotton allotments out of the county in 1967. Of 341 ballots, 239 opposed transfers and 102 supported. The mail ballot reduced effort and cost per vote, and within county transfers remain possible.
Willis Boyd, 59, of this city, died of a heart attack at about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Goodall and Witcher Clinic. He walked in seeking medical attention around 8:45 a.m. and died in an examination room. Funeral services were pending at press time.
Clifton clubs posted multiple Peewee and Freshman results in the Neils Creek League Texas Teen Age Baseball. The Clifton White Sox Peewees show two wins one tie and one loss while Green Sox are undefeated three and zero. Black Sox Peewees stand four and one and Red Sox three and three. Freshmen Black Sox lead with three wins one loss.
North Fort Hood hosts the Clifton National Guard unit for the first annual summer camp of the 36th Infantry Brigade. About 4 000 guardsmen rehearse simulated combat, march four miles to a problem area, and endure two more 48 hour training cycles with meals trucked to the field.
Zion United Church of Christ at Womack, founded in 1891, will celebrate 75 years with a 10:00 AM worship led by Reverend Walter R. Simpson Jr. guest speaker Reverend Carl Kluge will speak at noon basket lunch on the grounds followed by 2:30 PM informal services with greetings from the South Central Conference and others.
Mermaid Swiming Pool owned by Erwin Wiederaenders near Clifton will start swimming lessons Monday June 20 for beginners and advanced beginners. Mrs Gerald Peacock assists with eight lessons costing 7 50. Register at the pool or call 675 3389. A 7 PM Wednesday meeting will organize water volleyball teams with space limited to one team at a time.
Mrs. J. L. Hutcheson and her mother Mrs. C. Tisdale visited in Dallas last Friday and Saturday. They spent Sunday and Monday in Fort Worth where Mr. Hutcheson handled business and the couple saw their son Jim Hutcheson at TCU summer school along with other relatives.
A Meridan Chamber of Commerce led meeting for potential turkey growers is scheduled for Friday June 24. The program includes a bus tour to local turkey operations, a tour of a soon to be completed processing facility, a meal, and an evening talk by Ben Wormlee of Texas A and M Extension Service at the First Methodist Church. Individuals may request invitations by contacting County Agent Charles Hesson or the Meridian Chamber of Commerce.
A three day meeting of the Texas Legislative Council study committee on restoring forts and missions in Texas is set to review procedures and restoration possibilities. Members include Rep Gene Hendryx chairing with R. G Pendleton and Richard C. Slack and Sen J. P. Ward. guest participants include John Ben Sheppard Glenn Biggs Will Odom and others from state agencies and press.
Clifton Boy Scout Troop 76 departs for Camp Tahuaya near Belton for a week of camping led by Scoutmaster Paul Barnett. Two scouts earned four merit badges and life guard qualification in aquatic sections. The group includes John Bryn Ronnie Barnett Allen Draper Kenny Brynne Jim Canuteson Joe Wallace Jimmy Pierce Robert Stromgall Robbie Brown Terry Watson Seth Witcher.
Clifton Chief El Don J. Forbess reports only one traffic ticket issued during the week of Sunday June 5 to Saturday June 11. The citation went to an out-of-town driver for an improper start under Texas Motor Vehicle Laws.
An interim Bosque County Recreation Facility group met at the First Methodist Church in Meridian to form a steering committee. Members include C. E. Olson Jr. J. L. Standefer Jr. Bill Blewett and others from Clifton Valley Mills Morgan Laguna Park Iredell and Meridian. They will meet on Monday June 20 at 7 30 pm to survey possible facilities such as a lake golf tennis pool and cabins with long term leases.
Local church league posted a schedule of games with 7:00 PM starts on Saturdays June 18 through July 16. Matchups include Trinity Lutheran, Grace Memorial Baptist, First Methodist, Zion United, and Zion Church of Christ at Womack. Last full night at City Park saw Zion Church defeat Trinity Lutheran and Grace Memorial Baptist defeat First Methodists.
Mrs. E. A. Dahl received word that her eldest brother, T. C. Seymour of San Diego, California, died last week after several months illness. His death occurred in his sleep due to a heart attack.
