Funeral services for K D Culp were held Saturday at the Cranfilln Gap Methodist Church with the Baptist and Methodist pastors officiating. Culp, born July 8 1897 in Polk County Arkansas, died June 8 1948 at age 45 after years of ill health, survived by his wife Mathilda and daughter Margie, three brothers and many relatives.
Walter LeMay and Collin Monroe Mershon, both 24 and 31, were captured near Dallas after a long pursuit by detectives. A third unidentified man claimed to be an Ohio race driver with a selective service card. Victims in Hubbard City, Coolidge, Grandview, and Clifton report night watchmen tied and robbed, with over a thousand dollars missing from Sormrade's Store.

Four young German prisoners of war escaped from North Camp Hood and were pursued tonight by guards after one was captured in a small town eight miles south of the internment cantonment. Bloodhounds are aiding a search through Leon River bottomlands as officers along the Texas border track the fugitives. The group of seven attempted the breakout. two were stopped, one carried a map of south Texas and Mexico. four remain at large with descriptions released.
