Senior Citizens Day Observed at Clifton Sunset Home

May 24 featured an open house for Clifton and area seniors at the Sunset Home. Demonstrations by Florence Emshoff and the Louey Migel Center showcased crafts while Marvin Taylor spoke on aging. Red Cross Youth potential group discussed as volunteers aided with activities and refreshments.

Three Accidents Reported By Clifton Patrolmen

Clifton patrolmen James Wright and Harvey D Lane reported three accidents over the past weekend. Don Forbess son of the city police chief was seriously injured when his motorcycle collided with a pickup, he was treated at local hospital and then Carswell AFB Hospital in Fort Worth. A glass entrance at Clifton Speed Wash was broken when a car rammed it, and a two car collision at Farm to Market Road 1991 and Route 1 involved a 1966 Buick and a 1953 Ford with no serious injuries.

School Awards Highlight Clifton Public Schools Assembly

At the last Wednesday assembly in the Bettis Auditorium Clifton High students received top honors. Best All Around awards went to seniors John Trotter and Kay Roberts and to juniors John Poe and Sharon Sparks. Sophomores Craig White and Sally Greenwade earned top marks, while Freshmen Terry Watson and Bonnie June Standefer were named best in class. Library awards honored Carol Bennett and Sally Greenwade. Homemaking teacher Mrs. Jameson announced Kitsy Bennett as outstanding 1965-66 homemaking student and presented FHA Degrees to multiple seniors and state recipients. Dr. Troy C. Eggen presented gifts to seniors.

Highway Paving Truck Fire Near Thompson Hatcheries

Clifton volunteer firefighters battled a blaze on a Texas Highway Department paving material truck near Thompson Hatcheries, Inc. turkey farm north of the city. By the time units arrived, the fire was already out and the truck sustained little damage.

Lake Whitney Fishing Report Highlights Big Catches

Weekend fishing on Lake Whitney produced several large fish including blacks up to 542 pounds and a 46 pound yellow cat on trotlines. Night fishing yielded sandies and crappie, while upper lake channeleat fed on blood bait. Level near normal at 519.87 with multiple local groups posting sizable hauls on minnows and plugs.

Second Democratic Primary Election Set for Saturday at Clifton

Clifton City Hall dining room polls open 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM for the Second Democratic Primary. Election judge W. H. McCown with Kent Appleby Clarence S. Bronstad and three tabulators conduct voting. Voters choose the Democratic nominee for Texas Attorney General between Crawford C. Martin and Franklin Spears. Only three absentee votes cast to date in Bosque County.

CHS Cubs Fall in Bi-District Baseball After Loss to Burnet

Clifton High School Cubs were beaten 5-1 by Burnet High School in a bi district baseball game at Killeen last Thursday. Clifton managed only one hit, a single by pitcher Larry Grimland. Burnet scored first, Clifton tied it in the third, Burnet moved ahead in the fourth, and three runs in the seventh sealed Clifton’s defeat. Burnet advances to face Robinson High in a regional series starting Thursday at Robinson with potential third game at Robinson if needed.

Clifton Police cite May traffic violations in city

Chief Eldon J. Forbess released citations for traffic violations from Sunday May 22 to Saturday May 28 in Clifton. Offenses include no operator's license improper start and speeding as authorities urge alert driving and compliance with traffic rules to avoid local violation statistics.

Missionary Reverend Deer to Speak at Two City Churches

Reverend Donald S. Deer, Baptist missionary to the Congo, will guest speak at the First Methodist Church at 10 45 AM and the First Baptist Church at 7 30 PM on Sunday June 5. He and his family are visiting Mrs. Braswell before resuming Congo service, and he is translating the New Testament into Kituba with a Mennonite missionary.

Fallises Celebrate 69th Anniversary During May

Mr and Mrs J N Fallis of 302 North Avenue FE Clifton observed their 69th wedding anniversary during the May 15 21 week. They are long time residents of Clifton and plan: September brings his 95th birthday and her 89th. Both report good health though she is nearly blind. Mr Fallis still has all his permanent teeth in good condition.

Clifton Churches Prepare Vacation Bible Schools Dates

Local churches in Clifton announce Vacation Bible Schools with schedules and staff. Trinity Lutheran runs May 31 to June 10 from 8:30 to 11:00 daily with multiple teachers and assistants. First Methodist hosts June 6–10 from 8:30 to 11:30 with named teachers. Grace Memorial Baptist begins June 6 to 10 for Bible School and Youth Clinic evenings, including staff and guest speaker Reverend Robert Rachiu g.

National Guard unit heads to Fort Hood for two weeks

Lieutenant Joyce L. Taylor and 41 soldiers from Clifton's 148th Infantry, Texas National Guard depart at 5 30 AM Sunday for 15 days of summer training at Fort Hood. Sixteen other guardsmen stay for recruit school or base training as units brace for strenuous field bivouac.

Church Groups Form Softball League

A softball league was organized at 7:30 Tuesday night in the Educational Building of the First Methodist Church. Games Saturday at City Park pit Zion United Church of Christ vs Trinity Lutheran and First Methodist vs Church with 7:00 start and the winner to be decided by a best two of three playoff after six weekend games.
