Clifton City Council debated a modest rate increase for the Clifton Telephone Co after a lengthy discussion with company officials. The council cited years since the last raise and ongoing line improvements as reasons to approve some increase. A separate item notes Mrs. Caroline Polley of New York will perform at First United Methodist Church on Sunday night July 16 at 8:00, highlighting her long history in sacred music and ties to Columbia University. A preschool orientation session for rising first graders will run July 24 to August 4, with Kent Appleby urging attendance and outlining staffing and logistics.
The Clifton Chamber of Commerce board unanimously selects Bobby Joe Conrad as Executive Vice President and General Manager replacing L Neil Gately who retires. Conrad, a Cul ton native and former college and NFL player, will attend a Texas Christian University course before starting duties in August. Gately will assist in the transition and remain a dues committee member.
The Neils Creek League schedules its annual All Star Game in Crawfills Gap with a Pee Wee clash at 6 30 p m between the Pee Wee All Stars and Clifton Black Sox followed by a Freshman All Stars vs Meridian Reds. The Reds improve to 8 0 1 after a 10 10 tie with Clifton Freshmen. Valley Mills Freshmen lead second place with a 7 2 record. Clifton Reds remain contenders at 7 3 while Valley Mills eyes last game implications. Clifton American Legion to host a catfish dinner after their meeting at 8 p m at the Post Home with Commander Owen Sparks inviting members.
A men’s golf tournament at the Bosque Valley Recreation Club runs from Saturday July 15 to August 6. Eight flights form match play with one 18 hole match per week. Entry deadline is Friday July 14 at 5 p.m. Trophies awarded to winners runners-up and consolation in each flight. Flights matched by handicaps.
