At 11 p.m. on July 3 a Dallas woman backed her car into the swimming pool at Fish Hook Lodge on Lake Whitney. She was not a lodge guest. no injuries occurred as several swimmers were in the pool. The car damaged a shade support and was towed from the pool that night.

The Central Texas Fair set for August 27 28 and 29 in Clifton plans expanded attractions for the eight county area including Bosque Erath Summitvell Johnson Hill McLennan Coryell and Hamilton. The July 1 CTFA meeting at Clifton Public School Ag Building noted profits from a first year Quarter Horse Show and donations to the fair. For the 196? edition the Texas Agri Tour Exhibit will be placed between the cattle barn and rodeo ground. The group also voted to drop this year’s membership drive and appointed officers to study options.
Clifton’s unbeaten Cardinals hold a 7-0 record at the top of the Bi-County League standings as of July 2 with McGregor Giants in second and McGregor Braves third. The league plans nine more games before ending Friday July 24, with Clifton Indians set to face the Giants on July 9 at Easting Field in McGregor and a July 17 rematch at home.
The Clifton Chamber grows to 53 members after 18 new additions this week. Chamber President Helen C. Aars announced the boost and outlined outreach by Executive VP Neil Gately and the chamber board to area businesses, individuals, farmers, and ranchers.
Clifton's Regina Chapter No. 283 Order of the Eastern Star installed its 1970-71 officers in June with Doris Fenn as Installing Officer and John D. Fenn assisting. The ceremony featured Charley Turner as Installing Chaplain and Sadie Randall as Installing Secretary. Grandsons Brian Randleman and Scott Stagg also attended.
A ping pong tournament for seventh to ninth graders is set for Friday night July 10 at the Youth Center in the Methodist Church Fellowship Hall Clifton. Registration starts 8 pm with play at 8 30 pm. The center hosts Friday dances and games with special entertainment once a month.
