School Per Capita Boosted to 22 00 by State Board
Public schools will receive an additional 14 700 000 from the state per capita apportionment starting next September 7, after the board voted to raise the allotment to 22 dollars per pupil. A prior effort to set it at 21 failed, and Governor Allred noted potential tax changes if upper limits continue at 610. The automatic tax board will set rates this month or in August, with levies for general and Confederate pensions kept at constitutional amounts. Fiscal projections show a 9 107 balance on September 1 and a total available apportionment near 1 688 288 for the year.

Death of Alton Thomas Knudson at 20
Mr Alton Thomas Knudson died at his parents home on Tuesday June 20 after a long illness. He was 20. Funeral services were held Wednesday June 30 at 8 30 a m at the home and 4 p m at St Olaf Lutheran Church. Burial was in St Olaf Cemetery. He leaves his parents Mr and Mrs Sam Knudson and grandparents Mr and Mrs Jacob Kaudron with sisters Mrs Jake Johnson and Mrs Willis Windham of Denver Colorado Mop Shelby Marcy and Miss Olea and Sylvia Helen Knudsom of Waco plus many relatives and friends.

Convict from Eastham Caught Near Meridian
Albert Brooker, among 19 escapees from Eastham prison farm, was captured by Sheriff Beacon and Deputy Sheriff Bill Mick near Meridian early Thursday July 1. An accomplice, called Skeeter, escaped as a stolen truck from Bob Bohannen at Walnut Springs was pursued by deputies, bloodhounds, and trackers but remained at large. The pursuit crossed the Bosque River and ended with Brooker recaptured after the escapees fled into vegetation along the riverbank.
