Early Monday morning crowds lined the roads for a city picnic with a Texas Central Band leading a procession to the grounds. Mayor Hughes spoke, Jeff Gibbs entertained, and a grand fireworks display followed. Tuesday featured Hon. R. V. Davidson of Galveston in a multi hour address promoting his candidacy. Community figures and local couples attended, with Congressman Jack Beall addressing a large audience in Reeder Hall about his bid for reelection.
