Clifton firefighters battled a total loss at the Sue Snider Estate home on South Avenue F after a Saturday blaze caused by a smoldering other fire. They also extinguished a second car fire on West 13th Street and later put out a Buick fire in front of the Dairy King on South Highway 6.

Louis Stacha Dies Suddenly at Clifton
Louis Stacha 67 of Star Route 1 Clifton died after a heart attack Monday afternoon. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Goodall and Witcher Clinic. Rosary and mass were held July 5 and 6 at Clifton venues with Father Claud Smyth officiating. interment followed at West Cemetery.

Three games played by Clifton Freshman Teams in the Neils Creek League of Texas Teen-Age Baseball since the last Record all resulted in wins for Clifton. On Friday July 1 Clifton Black Freshmen beat Cranfills Gap 8 to 1 and Clifton Red Freshmen defeated Meridian 22 to 3. On Tuesday July 5 Clifton Red Freshmen won at Cranfills Gap 17 to 5. Three Clifton youths and one Valley Mills teen were injured when a northbound 1964 Chevrolet passed another car on State Highway 6 and collided with a 1956 Chevrolet on Farm-To-Market Road 217 near Valley Mills. Bobby Coffman sustained severe facial injuries.

The State Highway Commission awarded a 6 132 mile FM 1637 contract to J P Atkinson Inc of Clifton with a low bid of 110 373 95. Grading, structures, base and surfacing will take several working days under Waco district supervision with Winston C Smith as resident engineer. The project ties Valley Mills to China Spring and connects to Whitney Dam via pavement, extending prior FM 56 pavement toward China Spring.

Staff Sergeant Leroy Sorenson, son of Mr and Mrs Marion Sorenson of Route 2 Meridian, received the United States Air Force Commendation Medal. The citation praises meritorious service as NCO in Charge of Base Police Operations at Anderson AFB Guam from July 1 1964 to October 15 1965, noting initiative, resourcefulness and leadership.
