The Clifton Fire Department elected new officers for 1955 at a January 3 meeting. New officers include Bob Wilcox as chief, E W Wallace as 1st assistant chief, Calvin Dunlop as 2nd assistant chief, Joe Knochs as president, Orlette Watson as 1st vice president, Chester McDougal as 2nd vice president, Albert C. Reesing as secretary treasurer, and David Knudson as assistant secretary treasurer. Retiring officers listed include L C Perry as chief and Allen Hulme as 1st assistant chief.

Kathryn Ann Strother born January 19 Meridian to W N Strother first birthplace Clifton nineably seven pounds six ounces. Robert Gwynn Jr Krause born January in Greenville Mississippi seven pounds nine ounces. Joy Annette Mostella born January 8 Clifton Clarkwood with two older brothers and ties to the Rystad and Tidwell families.
Miss Leola Sharpe and Art Sha han Bosque County Extension Agents attended a three day Sub District Farm and Home Development Training Meeting in Hillsboro January 11 to 13. The session introduced a new Farm and Home Development method pairing County Agricultural and Home Demonstration Agents to assist farm families toward goal setting progress and record keeping. The program included a visit to a Hill County farm family with agents from ten District 8 counties and officials from College Station and state offices.
Otto A Stanhiser aged 85 died Saturday January 15 following a brief illness from internal hemorrhage. Born January 11 1870 in Van Zandt County he lived in Clifton most of his life, married Mallie Grimland and raised three children Monroe Eddie B and Florine. He worked at Bronstad Gin and International Harvester before retiring, survived by son Monroe and daughters Eddie B Hudepohl and Florine von Bieberstein, funeral at Trinity Lutheran Church Clifton with interment in Clifton Cemetery.
Mosheim High School boys surpass rivals with a 54 to 44 win over Valley Mills, moving to 4-0 in district play under coach and superintendent J. A McGehee. The team has 19 wins and 4 losses on the season and aims for further success as they face Cranfills Gap Friday. The Mosheim girls, coached by McGehee, sit second in the district with 12 wins and 10 losses, and could tie Cranfills Gap with a Friday victory. District B standings recap.
The 1955 license plates, black on yellow, have arrived at the Tax Assessor's office and will be ready for issue February 1. Purchases must be completed by April 1 to keep plates on vehicles. Farm truck plates require an affidavit, delaying processing. do not wait until the end. Plate ranges for Bosque County include passenger cars EC 3350 to EC 7949 and other categories. Mrs. W. A. Wylie of Crawfish Gap has been a hospital patient this week and is reportedly improving.
Bosque County Tax Assessor reports poll tax payments for 1955 far below 1954 and 1953 levels, with 989 paid as of last Tuesday and a deadline of January 31. Last year 2934 were issued and 1852 two years ago, affecting those turning 60 this year who must have paid to vote. Reverend Joel Nelson and wife visited Austin and New Braunfels through Tuesday, with Nelson's son Edmund and daughter-in-law Diane Wise shown among the local group.

Porchlight drive to raise polio funds will be held in Clifton next Monday night January 24 at 7 00 PM in support of the 1955 March of Dimes Campaign. Clifton PTA and local National Guard Unit will canvass residential areas with vehicles provided as a public service.
Bosque County Commissioners Court set 1955 tax valuations at a January meeting. The order fixes cattle at 1953–54 levels, sheep and goats at prior year values, hogs at 20 and 10 dollars per head, tractors and farming tools by model, and trailers and small trucks with year-by-year amounts. Merchandise valuation is 60 percent of inventory value.
Troop IV of Clifton Girl Scouts held a meeting on January 13 to select new officers for the year. Officers chosen include Sandra Aanenson as president Betty Sue May as vice president Sandra Forson as secretary treasurer and Alice Faye Wiede as reporter. Patrol leaders named were Elinor Miles Darla Gloff and Mary Ann Mickelson. The group planned to travel to Baylor University gymnasium in Waco on March 12 for a regional gathering.
Clifton and Granbury meet in District 11-A basketball Friday night in Clifton to decide the zone leader. Both teams undefeated. Granbury features sisters Shirley and Skeeter Raines, with Shirley touted as a top state forward. Clifton aims to rebound from a 47 34 win over Glen Rose as Nina Blankenship scores 30.
