Washington January 9 Democrats won their first major political victory over administration forces by pushing a party tariff through the House. The vote 214 to 182 backed revamping the Hawley Smoot law to adjust flexible tariff powers and favored an international conference to lower tariffs.
In 1931 daily scheduled air route flight miles exceeded 100000. Passenger totals rose to 2,715,346 with 417,505 on scheduled routes. Domestic routes reached 106 while cross-border routes numbered 19.
