Tax law does not exempt taxpayers from penalty
Waco Texas February 2 Those who remit until October 18 to pay county and state taxes are liable to a penalty 645 percent in addition to the 6 percent interest charged and are not exempt from any penalty as was first explained The law recently passed by the legislature and signed by Governor Neff provides that taxpayers may wait until October 15 to pay The penalty for the late payment ranges from 10 to 5 percent and not altogether Senator Witt says Taxes are due by January 31 as in prior years The penalty is not so large as to seriously hurt the poor man who cannot pay on time but is large enough to pressure large property owners into paying before penalties take effect The Record and Dallas News $2.50
