Texas Battleship Texas honors two world wars and Texans
The USS Texas, the third ship to bear the Lone Star name, saw combat in World War I and played a pivotal role in World War II from Pearl Harbor to Iwo Jima. The ship inspired a statewide fundraising drive in Texas led by the Junior Chamber of Commerce and stars Dana Andrews and Linda Dare for preservation. Thousands welcomed the Mighty T back to San Jacinto battleground in 1948 as Admiral Nimitz praised its fighting spirit.
