The Meridian community details a pause in college work on December 19 and a Christmas tree gathering that night at the churches. The report lists many local visitors, engagements, and forthcoming moves, including pastor selection for the next year and several families visiting relatives during the holidays.
Christmas finds families visiting friends as Jesse Hardie and family from Dallas arrive to see G. W. Gilstrap and wife. Walter Robertson and family from McGregor also visit, recalling Hardy’s past business ties and his many local friends.
Fire swept the home owned by Clarence Carpenter and occupied by Dr and Mrs J Owen Carpenter on Christmas eve night around 1 o clock. Fire started in the ceiling near wiring entry and was fueled by low water pressure hampering the response. Only a few furniture items were saved and all the clothing was lost.
