Meridan Court notes holiday visits as Baylor NTATC and TCU students spend Christmas with families. Local church program features choir and Cantata. UDC Christmas party, guest lists, and a land survey ledger item noting property transfers and prices accompany the community chronicle.
Mrs Tom Parks widow of Parke, a long time Clifton resident of Norwegian ancestry, dies December 22. She and her husband lived west of Clifton before 1907 moving to a home near Clifton. Active in civic and church work, she supported the Texas Technological College era and served in the Civic Improvement Society, leaving a record of labor and devotion to family and community. She left several children, including Maggie Swenson Parks, Ruby Tisdale, Virgie Lane, and Etta Parks, and was remembered for steadfast faith and service.
The Baganz Trio will perform at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Wednesday December 29 at 7:80. The ensemble features Mr Otto Bagans on harp with a trained young group from St Johns Lutheran Church and a conductor who emphasizes Christian character and musicianship. The harp, vibroharp and Deagan bells promise a rare musical treat aimed at fostering appreciation for noble music.
Prominent Asque County resident J Plewe Richards died Sunday after a long illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday and Wednesday at Greenwade-Handh with burial in the town cemetery. The obituary mentions Richards’ involvement with the American Liberty party and a nearby oil test well near Tursecount Highway 22, highlighting plans for further testing and potential refinery expansion.
A friendly audience gathered at City Hall for a pre Christmas community singing event. The grammar school chorus and men's chorus performed with the addition of a women’s chorus under Mrs Elinor Ree Jarek and Mr AHL Grender directing. Clifton firms donated pamphlets of Christmas carols distributed to all attendees as they sang along and enjoyed the program.
A near capacity audience at Clifton College enjoyed The Nativity directed by Miss Bula Lexy. Non professional cast with Marilyn Colwick as Mary delivered stirring singing and strong acting aided by a skilled student chorus and period costumes. Cast included James Rogers Joseph Lloyd Verne Homaratad and Lloyd Cox shepherds with Ronald Nelson Austin Flint and Wyvern Platt as Magi. Herod played by Edward Tipton.
285 strong evening honors Clifton 4H Club members and leaders at a county awards banquet. Flora Stryker led the group with songs, while Jerry Bati fer received the Wilson Meat Animal Award and Betty Patterson earned the Leadership Award. Richard Ray Schaefer won the Star Award for boys, and Murlyne Ferguson received the Gold Star for girls as Amelie Oswald and others presented a baton performance.
