Funeral Rites Held Here Tuesday For J. W. Poe
Funeral services for J. W. Poe were conducted Tuesday at Clifton’s First Methodist Church. Rev F W Thrash led the rites with pallbearers and burial at Walnut Springs Cemetery, honoring Poe who died December 1, 1904 at age 18. Survived by four children Bonnie Poe Johnnie Poe Mrs Blais Niteholes and Michael Poe, the family resided in Collin and McKinney areas before moving to Clifton.

Sgt. Hyles of Clifton arrived home from 31 months in the South Pacific with the First Marine Division. He served in New Britain and Paloa Bay while attached to the First Marine Corps. He urges support for war bonds to aid troops overseas as he plans to depart again in December.

David Bruce Barton Dies Here December 7 1944
David Bruce Barton died at the dole home in Clifton on Thursday December 7 1944 at age 14 years 9 months 2 days. He had lived much of his life in Oakey County and witnessed early cattle drives and open range life. He married Jan alle Maye Lewis in September 1808 and four children were born. one died in infancy. Barton was a Searsville Baptist Church member and remembered for his honesty and loyalty. He will be mourned by family and friends as he faced his final moments with faith.

Training For Youth Discusses Compulsory Military Training
The Clifton Lions Club gathered for a noon meeting at City Hill dining room with many members absent. First Lieut Louis M Sormrude wounded in Germany November 17 1944 and convalescing in England sent a message to his parents. The program debated compulsory military training for boys upon reaching age 18 or 19 with a proposed one year training period before Congress.

Telegram from the War Department confirms Pfc Samuel W Bush was killed in action on November 22 in Tealy Tealy. Bush had just under three years of service and served with the ith Army North Africa and New Guinea campaigns. He trained at Camp Wolters and was stationed in California before transfer to Galveston area. Survived by wife Margaret Shelley and several siblings, with one German relative noted.

A letter to Mrs. G. E. Jackson from Captain Lawrence He Chaplain details the death of her brother Cpl. Joseph M. Orbeck Army Serial Number 38028245 of the 3373 QM Trucking Battalion. He died at 3:00 a.m. Tuesday after a head injury suffered on a highway in Central Italy. Orbeck was buried at a United States military cemetery in Cenrab, Italy, with a funeral attended by many of his men.
