Winter pastures key as dry weather limits summer forage
County Agent notes that dry weather in Texas reduces summer forage, making winter pastures essential. Planning starts in fall with good seed, early planting, and testing soil nutrients. Nitrogen at 60 to 80 pounds, pest control for fall armyworm, and withholding grazing until cool weather aid winter growth and livestock nutrition.
